My grandmother on my father side, stayed at our house for a weekend. Her job was to take care of my other grand mother. We were busy teenagers and we were angels. Okay maybe not. But staying home is something we didn't do much, especially, with the added supervision. Had we been home, we would have seen what happened at the scene of the crime.
My mother had chest freezer filled with a side of beef. There was a bunch of mouths to feed and apparently my grandmother thought that included her. They were only going away for a couple days. What could happen? They would soon find out.
What's in the bag?
They came home after the weekend away and it was time for my father to drive McGregor meme' home. He wondered why her suitcase felt heavier than the other day but thought nothing of it. My mom hated deciding what to make for supper but felt confident because she knew she had many options waiting in the chest freezer. There was only one problem. The freezer was cleared out.
Where's da beef?
When dad got home he could see steam rising from my mom’s head and a look he had seen before. He quickly ran though his mind his daily activities and convinced himself that this time it wasn't his fault. Little did he know; he was an accessory to the crime. She pointed to her husband and asked him to follow her. She lifted the door and said, “Someone stole my beef” "Aha" My dad thought. With that the mystery of the heavy suitcase was solved. My mother was well educated on anything mysterious and watched many Murder she wrote episodes, so it was no surprise when she declared "There was only person who could have taken it” McGregor Granny strikes again. She had to decide. Do I confront her or not.
Ground round frown
My brother was the first one to call McGregor granny Burger Meister, Meister Burger. Instead of Santa Claus is coming to town, it was clepto-granny going to town. Instead of toys, it was meat. I can almost see her looking into the freezer, with a Burger Meister frown. " Beef! Who can afford beef? I can't afford beef! No beef for you!!!"
You have the right to remain silent and you'd better
My mother was a practicing Catholic and although she wanted to throw the book at her, had to do the right thing: Forgive her. This came in handy. Especially, on the day granny invited us over for supper. Everything smelt so good and we devoured the food. My mother didn't say a word. She didn't have too. Clepto-granny wasn't fooling mom. McGregor meme' never smiled but on this day, she did smirk a little. Even if my mom could convict her, she would've got off: We were eating the evidence.
